You are What You Think

Welcome to America, the land of the free and home of the brave; at least, it used to be.. Now it resembles something more along the lines of “land of the over-opinionated, home of the culturally conformed.” We live in a culture that, if you do not look, think, or speak like them will devour you like a school of Piranha feasting on a helpless Capybara; granted Piranha normally only feed on small mammals if they’re injured, however that is not much unlike our society.

Apart from the graphic imagery, imagine for a moment if you will that you are wondering through the mall. As you walk through the stores, the notion of buying anything far from you, you are bombarded with advertisements that show you how far behind you are on the latest clothing trends. Your journey to school, or to work every day is full of explosive and esteem injuring shots as you realize that everyone dresses better than you, talks different than you, acts different than you; you have been injured, queue the attack!

Like a school of starved Piranha society, people, corporations, Government, the Media all rush in to get their fill; biting and gnawing away at you until finally you conform! Ideals, opinions, beliefs (or lack thereof) coming at you in a constant barrage, making it difficult to even think! It’s not so far to even say that the church has become this way! The more that it becomes filled with new age ideals, beliefs and opinions the more that true faith is thrown to wayside and woe to anyone who walks into the doors of that place!

We have podcasts like Bad Christian that promote filthy language, poor attitudes toward others, the lifting up of your own opinions, and all manner of wicked and ungodly things and call it righteous and godly! We have television shows, movies, songs that corrupt the Word and make it into a fantasy world of scantily clad women and ferocious beasties! Not only does society condone this ignorance, it flocks to it, and not only society but the church as well!

Do not speak out against homosexuality, transgenderism, or anything of the like because it’s 2017!! Do not speak out against filthy language and poor attitudes, God doesn’t care what we say!! Do not speak out against being over-opinionated and self-serving, it’s everyone for themselves! Do not speak out against feminism, because women are better than men in many ways! Do not speak openly about your faith because Muslims might get hurt! Do not defend police because they are all corrupt, evil, racists! Do not have an opinion because if you do then you do not fit into the cultural norm, a norm that prides itself on its uniqueness and tolerance! Conform! Conform! Conform! You’re never going to be any good on your own! You need the world to succeed, you need those outfits to be appealing, you need that money to make something of yourself, and you need those opinions to fit in!!

Call me crazy, but I would rather burn at the stake than to conform to a society that serves itself at the expense of others but preaches equality and tolerance! There is no love in that! It has no concept of how ignorant and contradictory to itself it actually is!

This is what you live in, though! It is what you see every day, being forced down your gullet like a psychiatric patient who won’t take their medication! Truthfully I tell you, the more that you pay attention to these things the more that you will think like them; the more that you think like them, the more you will speak like them; the more that you speak like them, the more you will begin to do them , and the more that you do them the more like them you become! That is what it is to conform! The more that you allow these things to have a place in your head and in your heart, the more that you will become them! Or did He not say that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” and that “from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks,” so you should “guard your heart, because everything you do flows from it.” (MATTHEW 6:21, LUKE 6:45, PROVERBS 4:23)

There is no doubt that He said “do not be conformed to the ways of this world, but be transformed by changing the way that you think” for a reason! It is not a mere suggestion out of kindness, it is an urgency out of importance and necessity! You are quite literally not of this world, so then if you live as this world lives it will naturally corrupt you! He said this, that you are a “new creature in Christ; old things have passed away, behold all things have become new,” and that “you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.”  (ROMANS 12:2, 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17, EPHESIANS 4:17)

Furthermore, He very clearly tells us to “imitate God as dear children,” even Paul said “be imitators of me, even as I am of Christ,” and to do so because “you have died and your life is hidden in Christ” and not in the world or in its ways!! (EPHESIANS 5:1, 1 CORINTHIANS 1:11, COLOSSIANS 3:3) Or would we argue with God, favoring our own foolish opinions and the ignorant and unlearned opinions of others over the Word of God?

Don’t be fooled, He commands you to “be perfect because your heavenly Father is perfect,” and to “live as He lived,” and even still tells you “do not participate in the things these people do” (MATTHEW 5:48, 1 JOHN 2:6, EPHESIANS 5:7) You can say all you want that God is okay with the way that you talk, with your cussing and your gossiping but HE said “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them,” and surely “by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned.” (EPHESIANS 4:29, MATTHEW 12:37)

There is absolutely good reason that He says to “set your mind on things above, and not on earthly things,” and ” do not conform to the ways of this world, but be transformed by changing the way you think,” and to “fix your eyes on Jesus!” (COLOSSIANS 3:2, ROMANS 12:2, HEBREWS 12:2) What is that reason? It is that the more we focus on worldly things, the more we will be like them and He did not die in vain so that we could not be free; on the contrary He died, certainly and absolutely setting us apart from those things!

Would anyone reading this be brave enough to call God a liar? Would anyone be brave enough to say for certain, no doubt at all, that it is okay to talk that way and do those things because God will forgive you; knowing that He has said do not talk that way, or do those things? Would anyone, saying that they know God and they love Him openly speak against His Word that they say they live by?

Tread carefully, because of things like that He said that “it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come— and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.” (HEBREWS 6:4-6)

We serve God, He does not serve us! We obey Him, He does not obey us! We are His children, His creation, chosen and loved and would any of us continue to repay this by doing the opposite of what He says do? Or will your conduct reflect your faith, both in front of others and alone? Will you stand firmly in the faith to which you are called and live as light in the world of darkness, or will you cave under the pressure to fit in and conform? Don’t be fooled, it does not matter what your opinion is, it only matters what He says, otherwise His words Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take,” (PROVERBS 3:5-6) would mean nothing! But He said to “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do,” (JOSHUA 1:8) and He did not say so without reason!

I conclude by saying this: You will be what you give yourself to, whether it is of God or the world is entirely up to you! You are what you think; because what you think you will speak, you will do, you will be. That is how sowing and reaping works, if you plant seeds that come from the world you will live in its ways; though if you plant seeds that are from Him, you will live in His ways! Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (GALATIANS 6:7-9)

Bless you all, and thank you for reading! I hope to see you all again soon, and I assure you that I be posting more as I am able!
