Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me..” — Galatians 2:20
When Paul said this he meant that the old him, the flesh, had died on the cross with Jesus. He was no longer bound to his worldly desires and sin no longer had control over him. The intent in this is that no matter what you do or what you have done, God has already taken your sin away from you and you no longer have to be tied to the sin that your flesh so desperately seeks to bury you in. That is not your identity anymore! “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me..”
Like I said in the previous paragraph, Paul is saying that when Christ was crucified he, Paul, died; His life no longer belonged to him but to Christ! When Christ died on that cross he bought and paid for us. If He had not gone through what He did, God’s wrath would have been set loose and none of us would be here. So your life literally no longer belongs to you, but to Christ Jesus.
“..and the life which I live now in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God..” Paul says that he bears the constant persuasion attempts of the flesh, having faith that Jesus will reward him for his good work on that final day. He endures the hardships of this life, waiting for the day the Lord returns. Likewise, we are going to go through hard times and struggles but if we hold to our faith and to the revelation that is Jesus Christ when that final day comes, all the evil and all the hardships will fade away! Only love will be left shining a light on all things. Live your life knowing that Jesus is real! He is with you, and He is coming back to take us away from this evil and fleshly body and from the world, that day in and day out try to sway us from His love and glorious plan.
“Who loved me and gave Himself for me..” It is written, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Now imagine, Christ was so full of love and compassion for every soul that has and will ever walk this earth that He endured what no man has ever or will ever endure; not just the physical pain but the pain He went through when He took all of our sins upon Himself. He loved us so much that He, without sin, bore the wrath of GOD so we did not have to go through it. Jesus loves you. He laid down His life for us so, no matter what we may think, He is always there with us. He took our sin upon Himself and died for it. When Christ died for our sins He didn’t just die for the sin we committed before we got saved, but all the sin we give into from birth until we leave this fleshly body.
So remember every time you give into sin after you have excepted Christ as Lord and Savior, that is you putting Christ back on the cross (Hebrews 6:1-6). We are the ones holding the nail that is driven through His hands. You have a choice! He gave up His life so that you would not be bound to sin and could live in the good favor of God and not have to experience His wrath. HE GAVE HIS LIFE FOR US, SO WHY NOT LIVE OURS FOR HIM?
